Last updated: 1 September 2026 · DCI Leak Detection · A real job from our records, published with the details anonymised
Near St Austell, October 2024. A leak under the kitchen floor, booked within the week and attended at 9am as promised. The source was traced to a failed joint, the report was worded to support the customer's insurance claim, and we returned to complete the repair. Months later the same customer called us back for an unrelated issue, which is the best review a trade can get.
The problem: water under the one floor nobody wants lifted
Kitchen floors are the expensive place to have a leak: units, appliances and flooring all sit on top of the pipework, so exploratory digging is precisely what you want to avoid. The customer needed the source found accurately, and needed the paperwork to stand up to an insurance claim afterwards.
Finding it: one visit, one joint
We booked the visit within the week and arrived at 9am as arranged. The investigation traced the water to a failed joint rather than a burst pipe run, which narrowed the repair to a single point. When the customer asked for the report to be reworded to suit what her insurer needed, we did exactly that: the report is the customer's evidence, and it should work as hard as the detection did.
The outcome: repaired, claimed, and a repeat customer
We returned to carry out the repair, the invoices were settled the same evening, and the claim had the professional documentation it needed. The part we are proudest of came months later, when the same customer rang about a second, unrelated problem. People do not call back trades they did not trust the first time.
What this job shows
- Pinpointing protects your kitchen. One opening at a proven spot instead of units out and floors up on a hunch: that is professional water leak detection paying for itself.
- The report matters as much as the find. If you are claiming, read our guide to trace and access cover before you pay for anything.
- We do the repair too when the customer wants one firm to see it through.
